Sen. Griffo Honors Chenango County Businesses with New York State Senate Empire Awards

New York State Sen. Joseph Griffo, recently traveled through Chenango County to honor four standout local businesses with the New York State Senate Empire Award—an accolade recognizing companies that not only excel in their industry, but also play a meaningful role in driving economic growth and strengthening their communities.

The award underscores the critical role small and mid-sized businesses play throughout New York, particularly in rural counties where local industry is the heartbeat of the economy. While the focus was on Chenango County, the message resonates nationwide: innovative, community-minded businesses are the backbone of America’s economic and civic life.

Recognizing Excellence in Innovation and Community Impact

The New York State Senate Empire Award highlights businesses that show exceptional leadership, generate jobs, and contribute to economic development. During his visit, Sen. Griffo recognized the following companies:

  • Lok-N-Logs — Sherburne
  • Columbus Public House — Columbus
  • Gilligan’s — Sherburne
  • Chenango Valley Technologies — Sherburne

Each company was selected for its unique contributions to the local workforce and dedication to strengthening the region’s economic fabric. Whether through skilled manufacturing, food service and hospitality, or community-driven enterprise, these businesses have demonstrated sustained commitment to their neighbors and employees.

“I was pleased to recognize these businesses,” Sen. Griffo said. “Each one has created jobs, spurred economic growth and made many important contributions to the region and state.”

Championing Local Business in Rural New York

Chenango County, like many rural areas across the United States, relies on small and mid-sized employers as engines of growth. These enterprises build community identity, support local families, and help ensure that smaller towns thrive.

Sen. Griffo’s recognition underscores the value of preserving and uplifting these businesses, especially at a time when rural economies nationwide face pressures from workforce shortages, inflation, and changing market dynamics. By celebrating these business leaders, the Empire Awards shine a light on the resilience and innovation found far beyond major metropolitan centers.

A Call for a More Supportive Business Climate

During the award presentations, Sen. Griffo emphasized the need for New York to create a more supportive climate for business owners statewide. In comments underscoring his long-standing advocacy for employers, he pointed to ongoing challenges such as rising taxes, increasing regulatory burdens, and energy costs that place pressure on business operations.

“We have to do more in New York to improve the state’s economic climate and to make it more business-friendly,” Sen. Griffo said. “This can be accomplished by lowering taxes and energy costs and reducing regulations. I will continue to be a strong voice in Albany for taking such action and for our businesses so that they can grow, create jobs and be successful in New York State.”

His message mirrors concerns echoed in business communities across America—where economic competitiveness, job creation, affordability, and regulatory balance continue to be defining priorities.

Celebrating Success and Supporting Growth

As rural counties across the nation look for ways to retain talent, expand opportunity, and inspire entrepreneurship, celebrations like Sen. Griffo’s Empire Award presentations serve as reminders that American innovation can flourish anywhere.

From family-owned operations to growing manufacturers, the businesses recognized in Chenango County demonstrate how local pride, hard work, and vision can build lasting impact. Their recognition not only honors past achievements but also encourages future investment and growth—both in New York and across the country.
