For more than 40 years, I have been told numerous times that I was overreacting to the latest progressive assault on American norms, that I failed to understand what was taking place was actually consistent with the hopes (not reality) of American history and tradition.
A Republic—If We Can Keep It
At the end of the Constitutional Convention, Ben Franklin supposedly was approached by a citizen who asked what the Convention had produced. “A Republic, if you can keep it” has been widely quoted as the response. This Republic is under grave threat today. Without some meaningful adjustments, the Republic, as we have known it, will yield to a socialist state. Count me among those who will not go down without a fight.
Rejecting the Narrative That “Progress Is Always Progress”
This notion that what has been happening to our country is truly positive was nonsense then and even more so today. The same people who go into fits of rage at the mention of Donald Trump’s name appear to have concluded that the country must consistently continue to become more and more progressive in our politics.
Debating on Their Terms
How many times must we fall into the trap of debating matters on the terms established by people who truly do not want virtues such as individual liberty, freedom, and responsibility to prevail? The fact that these do not result in the progressive definition of equity requires we surrender the majority of responsibility and power to the government. Let them decide how we distribute everything under the sun.
The Progressive Playbook
The progressive game plan never changes. First, you deny the claims of your opponents, calling it a smear campaign. Certain groups (minorities, women, foreign nationals, LGBTQIA individuals, etc.) should be the recipients of special understanding and support. Others, largely males and always whites, must confront their shortcomings (be “honest” with ourselves). That means embracing progressive solutions to these “problems.” Next comes celebrating the claims you previously denied as being true. Suddenly, they define virtue and being enlightened. All of this is accompanied by demonizing your opponents.
The “Unholy Trinity”
This all gets worse with each passing year. We can thank the Unholy Trinity—academia, legacy media, and the world of entertainment—for leading the charge to substitute security for personal responsibility. A special tip of the hat goes to the academic community for their role in earnestly trying to destroy our country.
A Nation Divided on First Principles
Let’s be honest. The division in our country as to what is good and to be desired has never been wider. 74 percent of Republicans have a favorable view of capitalism, while only 14 percent feel the same about socialism. It is a tad different among Democrats. Only 42 percent view capitalism favorably, while 66 percent (as in two of every three) are favorable towards socialism.
The Well-Worn Path Toward Socialism
Remember our pattern of debate. Same holds true on this topic. First, we were told it was ridiculous to say Democrats were nudging us towards socialism. Then comes the problems that are so large and systemic (an especially favorite term for progressives), they require dramatic action. Next, we get that only the government can fix these horrid injustices.
The Reality of Power and Money
Anytime there is power and money involved, there will be a struggle to decide how to do things. This American says that socialism has repeatedly proven itself to be a failed form of government and must not be allowed to dominate affairs in the United States.
Not Mud-Slinging—Reality
Think that I am misrepresenting the facts? 53 percent of Democrats favor politicians with views similar to Bernie Sanders, AOC (only her initials are required for identification), and Mamdani. 37 percent want them to be similar to Schumer, Jeffries, and Pelosi. I am so old that I can remember when accusing Democrats of being dominated by socialists was treated as nothing more than mudslinging.
Indoctrination, Not Inheritance
There is not much out there that is encouraging. Among all 18–29 year olds, 62 percent of all of them view socialism favorably. Fully 34 percent are favorable towards communism. They were not born this way. They were taught to think this way. There is only one reasonable conclusion. Our education system has become a cesspool for ideological indoctrination.
Common Sense
Common Sense: It is not an overreaction to highlight what is happening and why it is such a threat to our way of life. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise, much less insist that agreeing with them is simply a matter of intelligence and virtue. The stakes are too high.
