Legacy Media’s Lies Can’t Fool America: Why Trump’s Approval Soars Despite the Spin

To listen to the legacy media, you would think Americans are clamoring to get to the polls to make known their discontent with President Trump. Let’s call this what it is. Nonsense. This is nothing more than them projecting what they wish were true, rewriting history along the way. It. Will. Not. Work.
Let’s take a look at actual numbers. The usual suspects (CNN, MSNBC, the three broadcast networks, the New York Times, and the Washington Post) rejoice in discussing how President Trump’s approval rating is cratering. What is the actual number now? According to Real Clear Politics, it currently sits at 47.8 percent. Think Joe Biden would have flipped on Hunter for a number like this?
From the dawn of time, politicians have relied on “right direction or wrong track” numbers as a summary of where voters stood at any given time. Our progressive pundits would love to be able to argue that the American public “now recognizes how bad President Trump has been for the country.” The numbers do support that position. In November of 2024, it was 26.8 percent right direction, 59.9 percent wrong track, or negative by a whopping 33 percentage points. Today? 47 percent right track. This is a 21 percent improvement in right track.
We all know the single most important issue is the economy. Not some macroeconomic statistic. No, what counts is how people see the economy impacting them personally.
How many stories did you see on how the tariffs were crushing the economy, causing stock market chaos, and causing “deep concerns among the public?” In reverse order, after screaming the sky was falling, the month of April closed with stocks at virtually the same numbers as it had opened. Oops.
Once more, however, consumers are not going along with legacy media. The Conference Board reported a 12.3 percent increase in consumer confidence in May after predicting no change from April.
What is wrong with these slow learning Americans? Surely our constant negative reporting is taking its toll on partisan numbers. Uh, not quite. Republicans continue to expand their advantage over Democrats. The Economist just reported that Republicans had a net negative favorability rating of 11 percent. Democrats were upside down by 21 points. My keen math skills tell me that is a 10 percent advantage for Republicans, not a small number in politics.
These are actual numbers, not some touchy feely crap from The View. In the face of all of this, the legacy media is doubling down on their view of things and cratering by the hour. Americans are not buying it. A Gallup Poll revealed just 31 percent trusted the media a great deal or somewhat. A whopping 67 percent said they had no trust or not much trust, with 36 percent saying none.
First, we have the coverage of Joe Biden’s obvious cognitive decline. Overwhelmingly, they take the position those dastardly and clever folks at the White House pulled the wool over the heads. There is a little, geesh, we should have done better. There is even less admission to the reality they were hardly passive observers—quite the opposite. Time after time, the legacy media vigorously argued in their news coverage that claims what could be seen by the naked eye was simply right-wing attempts to mislead the American public. It did not work then, and attempts to pretend all of this did not happen is flatly rejected by the American public.
The Hur Report (an elderly man with a poor memory). COVID (turns out we should have put a warning label on those vaccinations for pregnant women and young children). Even the two assassination attempts (are we sure he was hit with a bullet). Time after time, the legacy media put their advocacy for progressive policies along with palpable hatred for Donald Trump ahead of anything remotely resembling journalism as it has been practiced for a very long time in this country.
Americans no longer trust the media to give them honest facts. It was just reported that the average daily audience for MSNBC was 49,000. High school football games in Texas outdraw them.
Despite their best and multiple attempts, the data shows the American public is not rejecting the leadership of President Trump. The deceit in the past and their twisting of facts in the present are not working. Right now, the score is Trump 1-Legacy Media 0.
Remember this. Abraham Lincoln famously said: “You can fool all the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all of the people all of the time.” Maybe the legacy media could take this observation to heart. What do you think?
