Ty Masterson Joins Crowded GOP Field in Kansas Governor’s Race

Kansas Senate President Ty Masterson (R–Andover) has officially entered the race for governor, saying Kansas needs conservative leadership to reverse what he calls years of “liberal mismanagement.” A state senator since 2009 and former House member, Masterson pointed to rising crime, poor student performance, and high taxes as signs the state is falling behind. With Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly term-limited, Masterson joins a growing field of Republican candidates including Secretary of State Scott Schwab, former governor Jeff Colyer, Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt, former Wichita school board member Joy Eakins, former Johnson County commissioner Charlotte O’Hara, business owner Stacy Rogers, and conservative podcaster Doug Billings.
