Trump Sparks Outrage With ‘Apocalypse Now’ Post, Threatens Chicago With Federal Troops

President Donald Trump escalated tensions with Chicago this weekend by sharing a parody “Apocalypse Now” image on social media, vowing to unleash National Guard troops and immigration agents on the city. The post, captioned “‘I love the smell of deportations in the morning,’” depicted Trump in military garb against a fiery Chicago skyline. Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker blasted the move, calling Trump a “wannabe dictator” and warning that the president was “threatening to go to war with an American city.” Trump has already sent federal forces to Los Angeles and Washington, D.C., and has hinted that Baltimore, New Orleans, and Portland could be next. Chicago officials and state leaders say they will fight the administration’s plan in court.
