A Quilt, a Fundraiser, and a Stranger’s Quiet Act of Kindness

At a fundraiser supporting earthquake recovery efforts in Nepal, one woman walked away with more than a handmade quilt.

She walked away with a lasting reminder of human kindness.

The Quilt That Caught Her Eye

When Jenny Ginsberg entered the fundraising event, one item immediately stood out: a beautifully hand-sewn quilt in vibrant shades of purple and green.

Created in a pattern known as “the drunkard’s path,” the quilt had been donated as part of a raffle to help raise money for rebuilding a school damaged during the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquake.

Jenny loved it instantly.

So much so that both she and her husband, Sam, bought 10 raffle tickets each in hopes of winning it.

A Surprise Twist

As luck would have it, Sam’s ticket was selected.

But true to his generous nature, he immediately decided to auction the quilt back off to raise even more money for the cause.

Jenny supported the decision—but quietly admitted she was heartbroken to lose the quilt she had already imagined taking home.

“I was secretly devastated,” she recalled.

Still, she reminded herself why they were there in the first place: helping people who had lost everything.

A Stranger Notices

As the bidding escalated, Jenny noticed another woman enthusiastically competing for the quilt.

Eventually, the woman won.

But moments later, something unexpected happened.

The woman stood up, walked directly over to Jenny, and handed her the quilt.

“She said, ‘I’m giving your wife this quilt,’” Jenny recalled.

The stranger later explained that she had seen the look on Jenny’s face during the auction and wanted her to have it.

A Reminder That Small Kindnesses Matter

The moment left a lasting impact.

Jenny later tracked down the woman’s address and mailed her a heartfelt thank-you card, saying her family had always believed it was important never to take kindness for granted.

Today, the quilt remains displayed proudly on the couple’s bed.

More than just fabric and thread, it has become something symbolic.

“That quilt serves as a daily reminder of all the goodness in this world,” Jenny said.
