“Pumping Kindness” One Tank at a Time

In a time when rising costs are felt at nearly every turn, one Anderson United Methodist Church is offering more than just relief at the pump—they’re offering hope.

A Simple Idea, A Powerful Impact

At a Circle K location in Jackson, Mississippi, church members gathered with a clear mission: give back to their community in a tangible way. For just over an hour, volunteers filled gas tanks for local drivers—no strings attached, no questions asked.

Led by Senior Pastor Stephen Tyrone Cook, the effort was rooted in what he described as “extravagant generosity.” The goal wasn’t just to provide fuel, but to deliver something deeper—kindness, compassion, and a reminder that people are still looking out for one another.

Community in Action

Roughly 20 to 25 volunteers showed up to serve, working together to assist what they estimated would be around 100 vehicles. Each interaction—brief as it may have been—carried a message: you’re not alone.

This wasn’t a one-time effort, either. The church organized a similar event last year as part of its Lenten outreach, and the response was strong enough to inspire plans to continue the tradition.

More Than Just a Tank of Gas

While a full tank may last a few days or a week, the impact of the gesture can linger much longer. In a world often focused on challenges and division, moments like this offer a different narrative—one rooted in service and shared humanity.

It’s a reminder that sometimes, the most meaningful acts aren’t complicated. They’re simply about showing up, giving what you can, and choosing to make a positive difference.
