Celebrate the Blessings
Today, July 4, we celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. To listen to some progressives, the day needs to be observed with a high degree of focus on our shortcomings, then and now. My response? Go to hell. It is not as though there is some shortage of attention and discussion of those things that were and are less than might be desired. Would it be too much for the Feelings Police to understand that their crap triggers a lot of us whose ancestors fought (more than once) to secure and maintain a nation where more people have more freedom, liberty, and opportunity than any other nation in the history of mankind? Could we maybe, just this one day, focus on the blessings we enjoy and celebrate together?
Rejecting the Premise
The first mistake all of us who love the country and are proud of it make is accepting the premises of the arguments that the people who do not love the country and are not proud of it attempt to advance. My opinion is that we need to more quickly just dismiss their nonsense with “that’s bullshit.”
The Progressive Filter
There is no aspect of American life that the Unholy Trinity—academia, corporate legacy linear media, and the world of entertainment—has not seen fit to review and evaluate in terms of oppressors and the oppressed. No statement or action stands on its own. Instead, it must pass through the progressive filter with a special emphasis on race. Of course, that emphasis is dominated by demonizing traditional American values. In addition, white males, in the progressive world, are a particular source of things terrible and wrong. As a harmless old white guy, that pisses me off.
History and Honest Debate
It is absolutely true that in declaring our freedom, the privilege was not extended to enslaved African Americans. At the same time, it is beyond nonsense to argue that the entire Revolutionary War was fought to protect slavery and allow slave owners to avoid paying a tax on them to England. However, in forums that supposedly involve educated and serious people, we hear this crap all the time. Go to hell.
Sanity and Common Sense
One of the progressives’ favorite ingredients to any debate is to simply pretend that what they want to be true is true. Take the recent Supreme Court ruling to allow the State of West Virginia to not allow biological males to compete against biological females. All three progressive Justices voted in the minority to disallow the West Virginia statute. It was even argued that this was essentially a solution in search of a problem. Try telling that to the many women defeated by men (identifying as women) in competition. Try telling it that those women were severely injured during the competition.
Rather than twist ourselves into pretzels on this topic, we ought to insist that sanity and common sense be allowed to prevail. No, you cannot decide your gender. You are free to decide which gender you identify with. That decision should be honored within the realm of sanity. We will call you by whatever name you choose. That does not mean you gain access to private spaces reserved for women. Sorry if that hurts your feelings, but that’s how it is going to be. Oh, and by the way, no gender affirming medical treatment for minors. And, no, schools (as in the government) do not have the right to keep information from parents concerning what is going on in their child’s life.
Personally, I think transgenderism is a mental illness. I am quite confident that among 11-year-olds, it is a cry for attention. Still, so long as you are respectful of the rights of the overwhelming majority, we will be responsibly respectful of yours.
Human Life Itself
To complete this diatribe, let’s focus on the most basic element of any civilization—human life itself. Even progressives, should they ever choose to be honest about anything, must struggle with how they treat the unborn. A woman going to an abortion clinic to terminate the pregnancy (otherwise known as killing the child) is simply exercising her “right to choose.” Never mind, if she is hit and killed crossing the street on her way to the abortion, the assailant will be prosecuted for a double murder. Make it make sense. What is important here is for us to not let the conversation end without the progressive explaining under what set of logic, ethics, and morals this makes any sense whatsoever. No more “oh well” and letting the issue die.
Freedom, Not Force
Let’s smoke out these people for who they are. That would be a bunch of smug, arrogant, over-educated twits who believe in one set of rules for themselves and another for the rest of us. They know so well how we not only should live our lives, but also be forced to live them as they decide is best. We need to scream: This is what we fought the Revolutionary War for. We demand to live with freedom, not to be forced to accept what you have decided we should do.
Happy Fourth of July
Today, shout out Happy Fourth of July. Hope and pray those who do not share our opinions on many things can put aside their arrogance for one day to think about and celebrate the fact that, as measured against any reasonable standard, we are a great country.
