Pennsylvania Police Rescue Baby Deer Trapped in Storm Drain

Officers in Upper Gwynedd Township recently traded routine patrol duties for an unexpected wildlife rescue after responding to reports of a baby deer trapped inside a storm drain.

According to the Upper Gwynedd Police Department, officers quickly sprang into action after receiving the unusual call.

And while the situation could have been stressful, police managed to inject a little humor into the rescue as well.

“As soon as first responders received the dispatch, we all thought the same thing… Teenage Mutant Ninja Deer!” the department joked in a Facebook post.

A Careful Rescue

Officers Whisler and Coughlin worked together using a lasso and harness system to carefully pull the frightened fawn safely out of the drain.

Photos shared by the department showed the small deer safely rescued and reunited with the outside world after the tense ordeal.

Thankfully, the animal did not appear seriously injured.

Meet ‘Leonar-DOE’

After the successful rescue, officers decided the little deer deserved a fitting nickname.

They landed on “Leonar-DOE,” a playful nod to the famous Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles character Leonardo.

The lighthearted moment quickly drew smiles online, with community members praising the officers for both their compassion and creativity.

Small Moments That Matter

While police officers often respond to emergencies involving people, situations involving animals can also become meaningful moments for communities.

Stories like this resonate because they showcase a different side of first responders—one focused not only on public safety, but also on patience, empathy, and care for vulnerable animals.

And for one tiny deer in Pennsylvania, that kindness likely made all the difference.
