One Rescue Dog, One Big Ripple: Marley’s Story Inspires a Movement of Kindness
A Moment That Changed Everything
When Stacey Tarrant visited Negril on vacation, she didn’t expect to leave with a life-changing mission.
But during a sunset walk, a tiny puppy—later named Marley—approached her, alone and in rough condition.
“I was taking a sunset walk, and out of nowhere comes this little puppy,” Tarrant recalled.
Covered in sand and fleas, Marley needed help. And Tarrant knew she couldn’t walk away.
From Beach Rescue to Global Support
Determined to bring Marley home to Canada, Tarrant connected with local organizations like Negril Spay and Neuter Clinic and Montego Bay Animal Haven.
There was just one problem—the cost.
Transporting Marley would require about CAD$2,000.
So Tarrant took a leap of faith and launched a GoFundMe.
Within 48 hours, the money was raised.
“It showed how one act of kindness can inspire a ripple of kindness,” she said.
Turning a Story Into a Mission
That ripple didn’t stop there.
Inspired by Marley’s journey, Tarrant turned the experience into a children’s book titled One Love. One Dog. Marley’s Incredible Journey, bringing the story to life for a new generation.
The book, illustrated by Laura Watson, shares Marley’s rescue and highlights the importance of compassion, responsibility, and second chances.
Giving Back to Where It Started
For Tarrant, the story wasn’t just about one dog—it was about creating lasting impact.
A portion of every book sold supports the Montego Bay Animal Haven, along with donations to the Negril Spay and Neuter Clinic.
“When you take something from an island, you have to give back,” she said.
Local advocates say the story is helping shift perspectives—reminding people that all dogs, regardless of breed, deserve care and love.
A New Life—and a Lasting Message
Today, Marley is thriving in Canada, living what Tarrant describes as a happy, love-filled life.
But her story continues to travel far beyond one home.
From a beach in Jamaica to bookshelves and classrooms, Marley’s journey is now a symbol of what can happen when someone chooses to care.
