Hot-Air Balloon Makes Surprise Landing in California Backyard

What started as a quiet morning quickly turned into something out of a movie for one California couple—complete with a balloon, a crowd, and a story they won’t forget.

An Unexpected Visitor

In Temecula, homeowners Hunter and Jenna Perrin were going about their morning when they received an alert from their home security system.

Moments later, a knock at the door delivered the news:

A hot-air balloon had just landed in their backyard.

Stepping outside, they found a full balloon—with about a dozen passengers—resting on their lawn.

A Careful, Emergency Landing

The pilot was forced to bring the balloon down after winds unexpectedly died, leaving it hovering without enough lift to continue safely.

Everyone exited the basket while additional fuel tanks were brought in, allowing the crew to eventually relaunch and move the balloon to a transport truck.

The entire process took about two hours.

A Close—but Safe—Call

Despite the unusual landing, the situation could have been far worse.

The balloon narrowly avoided the home and nearby trees, with the couple noting just how close it came to hitting their fence.

But thanks to careful maneuvering, there were no injuries—and no damage to the property.

Turning Heads—and Bringing Neighbors Together

The surprise quickly drew attention.

Neighbors—many of whom the Perrins had never met—gathered outside to watch the scene unfold, turning the unexpected moment into a shared experience.

For a brief time, the quiet neighborhood became the center of something extraordinary.

A Story to Laugh About

Looking back, the couple described the scene as something straight out of a movie, comparing it to the floating house in Up.

And while they may not be eager to hop into a balloon anytime soon, they’re taking the moment in stride.

After all, it’s not every day that a dozen strangers quite literally drop in.
