The Facts Don’t Matter If the Narrative Is Fixed
After spending days debating with my progressive friends, unable to persuade them to join with Venezuelans there and in the United States in celebrating the capture of the narco-terrorist dictator Maduro, I was both frustrated and depressed. Nothing I presented as facts—event applauded by former DNC Chairman Wasserman, Ana Navarro, and by Nobel Peace Prize winner Machado (winning the award for her resistance to Maduro), highlighting that Clinton, Obama, and Biden had used military force without Congressional approval at least a dozen times, urging they recall George HW Bush invading Panama to remove its strong man Noriega without any Congressional approval—nothing moved the needle.
No, President Trump had dangerously ignored international law, they argued. Even observing that President Biden had placed a bounty of $25 million on Maduro made no impact. Perhaps most frustrating was the Progressive ability to simply blow by the fact that previously, Trump’s sin had been cozying up to Maduro; now, without missing a beat, they were highly critical of the action taken.
Consistency Isn’t About Principle — It’s About Power
In a normal world, this ignoring of facts, coupled with blatant hypocrisy, would be the cause of embarrassment, inclusive of the coverage of it by the legacy corporate media. We do not live in a normal world these days. An article written by David Harsanyi helped me better understand the reality that now defines the debate surrounding public policy.
Harsanyl pointed out that Progressives were consistent in their attitude towards the Iran situation. The consistency is that under all circumstances, Trump is wrong. You just reverse engineer from that premise.
A Closed System Disguised as Debate
The more I thought about things, the more I was reminded of an observation that I had made in jest years ago. It is no longer remotely funny. In the Progressive world, debate is to be conducted within its paradigm. This paradigm simply states that under all circumstances, Progressives get to advance their narrative and agenda. They are right about everything. They are right because they are for good things. They are for good things, because they are good people.
The opposite is also supposed to be taken as Gospel. Those who oppose them are wrong, wrong because they are for bad things, and for bad things, because we are bad people. Facts, logic, reason, results, and hypocrisy count for nothing. In the Progressive world, everything is a prop to them, including human life. Let’s take a trip down the road we like to call reality. It is a place Progressives have zero trouble ignoring.
COVID: Follow the Science — Unless It’s Inconvenient
COVID-19? We were told to follow the science, listen to the experts, and let the data decide. Of course, the opposite is what took place. There were a multitude of “experts” who disagreed with the austere measures taken. We were never all in this together.
81 percent of deaths were in people over the age of 65. In addition, 99 percent of adult COVID deaths occurred in people with one or more comorbidities (diabetes, heart conditions, etc.) or obesity. In retrospect, do we think that maybe, just maybe, those in charge cared more about controlling our behavior (no matter the cost) than paying attention to actual science and data? As with everything else in the Progressive world, the elites make it a matter of bad taste to point out any of this.
Free Speech for Me, Silence for You
Freedom of speech? Rationalizing or celebrating the assassination of a political opponent is fine. That is protected free speech. Just ignore the irony that someone (Charlie Kirk) was executed for exercising their right to free speech. Thank goodness the people who had no trouble with someone being killed avoided using racist, sexist, or homophobic language. These, as defined by Progressives, get you fired in a skinny minute.
Religion as a Tool, Not a Principle
Religion? Why do you loudly celebrate when its leaders support your point of view on issues such as immigration? It is used as proof that those who worship a loving God agree with them. At the same time, you just ignore them when they disagree on matters such as abortion, transgender surgery, or even intruding into religious services.
Before Christmas, Minnesota Governor Walz warned that ICE agents might invade midnight services in pursuing illegal immigrants, because that is who these people are. After trained professional protesters stormed into a church this past Sunday, thinking its Pastor was on the wrong side of immigration, accompanied by “journalist” Don Lemmon, we were lectured that the intruders were merely exercising their right to peacefully protest. Just never mind that the same First Amendment assures the freedom to worship.
Our Progressive friends argued that those upset were entitled white racists. Any criticism of Lemmon was the product of racism and homophobia. Nobody will ever sell Lemmon any Preparation H, because he is a perfect a..hole. He would be if he were a white male heterosexual (can we please get rid of cisgender?).
When Human Life Becomes a Prop
Most disturbing to me is how human life itself is treated. Renee Good, another professionally trained protester, was killed during a protest about ICE in Minnesota. First, we were told she was just a Mom in the wrong place at the wrong time. That soon unraveled. Then, we had the “video proves” that it was an unjustified murder. Once again, an additional video called that very much into question. You can grieve for this loss of life without making the woman pure as the driven snow.
Meanwhile, when an innocent individual is killed by a convicted repeat offender, we are told to worry about the lack of mental health resources. When an illegal immigrant kills someone, we are warned to avoid stereotyping and scapegoating. No gatherings to protest the behavior, and little real sympathy for the victims and their families. No, those lives simply complicate advancing the Progressive narrative and are undeserving of real attention, much less protests against what happens more often, by order of magnitude, than an ICE official killing anyone. Even human life is a prop.
Common Sense Conclusion
We did not even touch upon protecting democracy, the rule of law, and countless other opportunities to demonstrate that for Progressives, all that counts is their narrative. This smug arrogance and certitude of being in the right define their souls, independent of the subject at hand.
Common Sense: Progressives are consistent. It is just a consistency (we always are right and get to win every time) that most of us are unfamiliar with. Our Republic cannot survive unless this is addressed and called out for what it is. Moral superiority that rejects facts, logic, reason, and actual results should not be allowed to rule the day.
