“Bradley Strong”: Tribute to High School AD Resonates Across the Country

A Powerful Display of Support for a Coach Whose Influence Spans Generations
A Massachusetts high school athletic director is receiving national attention after an emotional “Bradley Strong” ceremony highlighted his extraordinary dedication to students even while undergoing cancer treatment. Kevin Bradley, who has served as athletic director and multi-sport coach at Whittier Regional Vocational Technical High School for 27 years, was honored on the football field as hundreds of students, alumni, educators, families, and community members gathered to celebrate his impact.
Diagnosed with tongue cancer several months ago, Bradley has been commuting to Boston for daily radiation and chemotherapy — yet continues to show up for his athletes. As he walked through a “Bradley Strong” banner onto the field, he was met with a crowd lined in an arch, cheering him on.
Career Defined by Service, Leadership, and Heart
The tribute included a surprise message on the stadium screen from the New England Patriots cheerleaders — starring Bradley’s niece, Shauna — and a collage featuring highlights from his nearly three decades of leadership. Al Costabile, a fellow athletic director and longtime colleague, praised Bradley for shaping the lives of “thousands of young people” as a mentor, teacher, and friend.
Bradley’s coaching career spans several collegiate programs — including stops at Plymouth State, Villanova, Virginia Tech, and West Virginia Tech — before he arrived at Whittier in 1998. Since then, his teams have earned more than 150 football wins, 400 girls’ basketball victories, and produced around 50 collegiate athletes, with a handful advancing to professional play.
A Moment That Resonated Beyond the Scoreboard
Though Whittier lost its game that night, the focus rested on Bradley’s resilience and the deep gratitude of those he has guided. Superintendent Maureen Lynch said his strength “on and off the field” exemplifies what it means to be “Bradley Strong” — a message that has now reached far beyond one school or one community.
