The Louisiana State Capitol is getting a long-overdue makeover. Governor Jeff Landry and state lawmakers have allocated $31.7 million to begin waterproofing and cleaning the iconic Art Deco structure. “It is a symbol of Louisiana, and it’s one of the most visited state capitol buildings in the country,” said Senate President Cameron Henry. “We’re taking all the steps we need to waterproof it so it will last another 200 to 300 years.” Completed in 1932 and tied to the legacy of Huey Long, the Baton Rouge landmark is set to undergo a multi-year preservation effort expected to total $113.9 million.
