New York Lawmaker Pushes Bill to Make Gas Pumps Hands-Free – Will This Finally End the State’s Outdated Rules?

New Yorkers may soon be able to pump gas hands-free thanks to a new bill introduced by State Sen. Joe Griffo. The legislation aims to allow the use of hold-open clips on gas nozzles, a technology already legal in 49 other states. Griffo, responding to widespread constituent complaints, argues that the bill will improve convenience and safety, particularly for elderly residents, by minimizing exposure to harsh weather. The bill seeks to bring New York in line with the rest of the nation and address what Griffo calls “unnecessary government overreach.”
