As part of our continued focus on whole-person health and sustainable habits, Think American News is proud to feature a new April series from health and wellness expert Heather Jenkins. The April Reset: Create Calm, Energy & Balance is designed to help readers step back, tune in, and make simple, meaningful changes that support both mind and body.
This week, Heather begins with something many of us feel—but don’t always understand: burnout. And more importantly, how to begin moving beyond it.
Week 1: Why You Feel Burnt Out
Understanding the Root of Burnout
Many of us live in a near-constant state of stress without even realizing it. Your
body is designed to protect you through what is known as the “fight or flight”
response. This is helpful in short bursts, but when stress becomes chronic, your
nervous system stays activated longer than it should.
Over time, this can lead to symptoms like fatigue, poor sleep, irritability, and
difficulty focusing.
Your Body Knows How to Reset
The good news? Your body also has a natural way to return to a state of calm you
just have to support it.
Try this: Inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 4, and exhale for 6. Repeat for one minute.
Your body isn’t working against you it’s working to protect you.
Awareness Is the First Step
Awareness is the first step in any wellness journey. Once you begin to recognize
how your body responds to stress, you gain the ability to pause, reset, and respond
differently instead of reacting automatically.
Action Step
This week, pause once a day and check in with your body. Notice how you feel
physically and mentally. This awareness will help you begin building small daily
habits to support your nervous system we’ll focus on next.
