Unqualified Declarations in a Divided Time
We live in a time where unequivocal declarations as to what is good and bad come with great frequency. Even when correct about the overall principle, oftentimes what qualifies for inclusion or exclusion seems little more than an effort to advance a partisan agenda.
Communism: A Clear and Present Evil
Right here, right now, I am here to say communism is bad, with no qualifications. Other than creating misery, the bet is you cannot rationally argue that a single positive thing has ever emerged within communism. There is a reason that millions have resisted and fled the many horrors of communism. It is a terrible and murderous form of government. Compare it to other evils to be confronted.
Real Racism vs. Manufactured Outrage
Racism is bad. The stretches in logic and of facts to essentially argue that anytime anyone claims that something is racist is, in fact, racist, actually undermines the will to fight what is truly racist. Calling someone the N word? Racist. Asking someone how their weekend was? Not racist for rational and sane people.
Toxic Masculinity, Double Standards, and Military Reality
What about toxic masculinity? Never mind the lack of conversation on toxic femininity. Denying equal opportunity to a female based on her gender is wrong. Insisting that women pass the same physical tests to serve in combat as men? Let’s have every smug, condescending person (male or female) volunteer to go into battle with a troop force consisting of women who failed to meet the same standards as required for males. The military ought not to involve social engineering is a view held by most rational Americans, and I am guessing by every male who serves in combat.
When Principles Become Performances
There are many instances where a good and legitimate principle becomes the pivot point for progressive performative virtue signaling, if not downright craziness. Respecting how one decides to gender identify is fine and dandy, even if some of us feel as though that certainly for minors, most of the transgenderism is more a matter of mental illness. Having teenage biological boys in the same locker room as biological females is a bridge too far for 80 percent of Americans.
A Generation Losing Perspective
Last week, we pointed out that among 18-29 year olds, 33 percent hold a favorable view of communism. This is perhaps the most damning indictment of our education system, as well as the media reporting on things and the world of entertainment, celebrating all that is not traditional custom in the United States. The temptation is to ask WTF is wrong with you people? Do you have any idea of the horror communism has already inflicted?
The Victims of Communism Memorial Foundation’s Mission
Fortunately, we have an organization dedicated to making the realities of communism better known, the Victims of Communism (VOC) Memorial Foundation. In 1993, Congress authorized the Foundation. This took place after the fall of communism in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe. The wounds were still very much open, and there were plenty of victims all too glad to let the world know how terrible it was to live under the tyranny of communism.
Honoring More Than 100 Million Lives Lost
There is a memorial within eyesight of the U.S. Capitol that pays tribute to the more than 100 million who died because the communists killed or imprisoned them due to their failure to sufficiently accept what their government deemed as proper and acceptable. Slow down and pause to consider that number, 100 million!
A Living Museum of Testimony
Also in Washington, D.C., we have the VOC Museum within easy walking distance from the White House. They provide tangible evidence of the evil that defines communism. It includes artwork produced by its victims, photographs, and other testimony that cannot be denied.
Teaching Reality Before It’s Forgotten
The Foundation also has a myriad of programs, including one focused on teachers and students in the hopes that making reality better known will help put an end to any thought that communism is the answer to any problem, save for creating a vicious and tyrannical government.
A Final Call to Awareness
Let us hope and pray that the work of the Foundation helps erase any belief that communism is anything other than what it is. To learn more, reach out to its leader, Eric Patterson ([email protected]) and their website, victimsofcommunism.org.
Remember This
Remember this: There is not one damn thing good about communism. That a sizeable percentage of our fellow citizens feel otherwise is a tragedy that requires our attention. What do you think?
