Clearing the Myths First
Let’s get the myths out of the way upfront. A frog will NOT stay in a simmering pot of water until it boils to death – unless you put a lid on the pot. The 85% Inuit population of Greenland will act in their best economic interests – unless globalist political influence of its leadership (perhaps bribes) interferes.
Why Facts Matter More Than Opinion
As always, I don’t care about your opinion regarding U.S. relations, or even control, over Greenland. My concern is that your opinion is based upon some level of factual orientation – and it seems most political opinion is not.
The United States Is Not a Colonial Power
The U.S.A. has never had a “colonial” practice or agenda – never! Strategically, the U.S. has negotiated property rights for strategic military operations, not occupation, with extremely favorable economic terms for the local economy. Most are treaties for Defense Cooperation Agreements (DCA) across the globe, from Japan to Denmark to Brunei. Some instances turned into “territories” such as Hawaii and Alaska, turning into states by the election of the people in the territories in 1959.
Greenland and Modern Negotiations
Similar to the Compact of Free Association Agreements (COFA) with Micronesia and Palau (surely you know where they are on a map?), the Trump administration is attempting to negotiate with Greenland.
You can read the realistic plotline involving the historical and geopolitical significance of Greenland and rare earth metals and minerals in my fictional thriller novel, Deceit of the Earth – Heavy Metal…but until then…
A Brief Geological and Human History
Greenland has been COMPLETELY covered in ice for over 3 million years, with a few exceptions. 400k years ago, it had trees, and the emergence of coastal plains around 4,000 years ago. Even today, about 90% of Greenland is an uninhabitable ice-sheet. From about 2,500 B.C to 1350 A.D., three different paleolithic tribes from North America followed game into Greenland and left or died out. The last North American humans, dispersed widely in small groups, have been labeled the Inuit.
Why Geography Changes Everything
Yes! Greenland, geographically and tectonically, is part of North America – not Europe. And, its airspace is the shortest distance and most likely path of a missile from Russia to mainland U.S. – it’s not even a close call.
Vikings, Denmark, and Forgotten Claims
In about 950 A.D., Nordic Vikings temporarily settled coastal outposts in Greenland and only left some XY chromosomes intermingled in the Inuit population. Somehow, lost to history, in about 1350 A.D., the fledgling kingdom of Norway claimed title to Greenland.
From 1397 to 1814, Denmark, Norway, and Sweden engaged in rather ill-defined unity alliances (joining, breaking away, joining, separating). Greenland remained perpetually ignored except when drawing lines on a map.
Religion, Welfare, and Dependency
Significant, but the only turning point event was a Danish-Norwegian Lutheran minister, Hans Egede, who was sent to Nuuk, Greenland in 1721, to convert the scattered Inuit groups to Christianity. Over a protracted period of time (past Egede) organized settlements did replace hunter-gather outposts, and the designated major religion in Greenland is Christianity. Regardless of your political leanings, the reality is that creating rather non-self-sufficient settlements ALWAYS creates a WELFARE STATE, dependent on outside economic support – and the Danes were NOT gratuitous to the Inuit.
When War Made Greenland Valuable
Greenland’s dependency suddenly became relevant when the Devil came calling. In the 1930s, Hitler annexed Denmark, AND he forcefully commandeered all engineers and scientists to build his war machine – including the brilliant minds at the University of Copenhagen.
Why Aluminum Changed the World
At the turn of the century, with the new age of subatomic science, Paul Héroult (French) and Charles Martin Hall (American) discovered a process for the industrial production of the rare metal – aluminum. Carl Josef Bayer (Austrian) discovered an improved smelting process using Bauxite. Trivia: Julia Brainerd Hall was the brains behind the modern process, without credit, although Julia and her brother Charles did go on to found ALCOA Aluminum.
Greenland’s Role in Nazi War Production
The reality is that “rare” earth metals and minerals are not so rare – it’s just difficult to economically strip-mine 10 tons of earth to extract a gram of material. Adolf needed lots and lots of lightweight aluminum to build Messerschmitt fighters and Henkel He bombers. Greenland suddenly became important!
Scientists informed Hitler that Greenland had large, condensed deposits of Bauxite. Military installations, along with mining and laboratory operations, were immediately deployed to Nuuk and Ivittuut, as the rather abusive paternalistic leaders of Denmark sat back and watched – plus, no economic value was infused into the Inuit communities, except perhaps a form of slave labor as needed.
America Steps In After WWII
Post WWII, the U.S. entered into a DCA with Greenland/Denmark, building almost 50 military, radio, and satellite bases across Greenland, creating the height of economics to the Inuit. Denmark eventually reduced it to ONE isolated, U.S. early detection base in northwest Greenland. Remember, modern U.S. Presidents publicly laughed at Russia being a major threat to the U.S.
A Dark Chapter Few Discuss
For over three decades, beginning in 1965, Denmark implemented a birth-control initiative on the Inuit population, routinely inserting intrauterine devices (IUDs) into thousands of Inuit females between the ages of 12 and 30, without parental consent or patient disclosures, keeping in mind that the total Inuit population of Greenland was less than 50,000 – many would tag this as modern genocide – you decide. As of 2026, Denmark alleges it “plans” to pay out up to 47,000 € per victim, through a complex application process, keeping in mind that many of the victims are dead, in their 50s to 80s, and had no realistic capacity to maintain personal medical records.
Why Greenland Matters Today
The 836,000 square mile North American country of Greenland is, without question, a strategic geopolitical location. It’s larger than the combination of Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Poland, Portugal, and the Netherlands – and three times bigger than Texas. About 90% of the land mass is uninhabitable, yet it is a treasure trove of rare earth metals and minerals!!!
The Welfare Trap
Now, here’s the tricky part. Remember, the Greenland economy (and current occupation form) is completely dependent on a welfare system. The population would have to move, die, or return to a Paleolithic environment to survive.
Steps Toward Self-Rule
In 1979, under international pressure, Denmark agreed to allow Greenland to have Home Rule and establish a parliament, also allowing a seat in the Danish parliament (similar to the Virgin Islands as a territory of the U.S. having a Congressional seat). Amidst Denmark’s continued underfunding of Greenland’s welfare state and the revelation of the genocide conspiracy, in 2009, Denmark agreed to allow Greenland to have a referendum to declare independence.
A Fractured Political Landscape
The Greenland parliament has 31 elected members. There are four parties, with no party having even close to a majority. Over 85% of the population is biologically Inuit with various amounts of Viking and Danish DNA.
A Different Economic Path
Similar to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act Fund (ANCSA), with 229 indigenous tribes, President Trump has proposed a trust fund for the Inuit population of Greenland with a Defense Cooperation Agreement (DCA). Part of the agreement would include profit sharing with the Inuit for the extraction of rare earth metals and minerals (similar to the agreement with Ukraine, Congo, and other countries) – independent economic growth that Denmark has denied the Inuit for centuries.
Who Really Wants Greenland
Canada (and Denmark) is logistically and politically incapable of providing defense to Greenland. Russia (with the support of China) actively wants to control Greenland – most certainly without a DCA or shared-profit minerals agreement.
A Curious Political Development
Some parliament leaders are highly interested in Trump’s proposal as it would also remove the barrier of welfare-dependence on a stingy Denmark for a referendum of independence. Miraculously, almost out of the blue, in late 2025, a single, 33-year-old, liberal-socialist (Demokraati) Dane, Jens-Hendricks Neilsen, was promoted to Prime Minister on his platform of opposition to Greenland independence and defense agreements with the U.S.
Unanswered Questions
Jens was technically born in Greenland to a Danish fisherman, although the name and background of his mother seem to be a mystery, as is his new, alleged “girlfriend.” His claim to fame is winning Greenland’s badminton championship.
In political-speak, who are the politicians benefiting most from the welfare-state and given a more prominent voice of anti-U.S.-cooperation rhetoric?
A Question of Perspective
If you were of Inuit ancestry, with over a millennium of economic and social abuse from the European Nordics, where might your opinion fall? And, since when is the birth certificate, identity of the mother, birth facility, and now the girlfriend of a Prime Minister a NATIONAL SECRET?
A Final Thought
It makes me want to crush my aluminum beer can after eating some frog legs!
