Why More Young Adults Are Turning to Facelifts

A New Generation Under the Knife

Once considered a procedure for the wealthy or middle-aged, the facelift is being redefined by a much younger generation. From “mini” and “pony-tail” facelifts to deep-plane procedures, people in their 20s and 30s are increasingly opting for surgical enhancements once reserved for later in life. Social media is filled with before-and-after photos, recovery journeys, and candid confessions about the pain, bruising, and eventual satisfaction that come with the transformation.

Influencers and celebrities — from Kris Jenner to Marc Jacobs — have normalized cosmetic surgery by speaking about it openly. For many, it’s less about reversing aging and more about achieving the sculpted, lifted “snatched look” popularized online.

From Toronto to Turkey: The Global Appeal

Emily, a 28-year-old businesswoman from Toronto, underwent six procedures at once in Turkey, including a mid-face lift, rhinoplasty, and lip lift. She calls the experience “life-changing” despite months of recovery and numbness. “I just wanted to be the best version of myself,” she said. Others, like 34-year-old Julia Gilando, also traveled abroad for affordable facelifts, despite the risks and isolation that can come with surgery overseas.

According to the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), facelifts have increased 8% in the past year, with more younger patients entering clinics. Experts link the rise to new surgical techniques, rapid weight loss drugs, and constant exposure to filtered, AI-altered images online.

A Costly Pursuit of Perfection

Doctors warn that multiple facelifts over a lifetime can strain the body, while the psychological toll of perfection culture continues to grow. “There’s an unprecedented pressure,” said body image researcher Dr. Kirsty Garbett. “Cosmetic surgery has become normalized — and that’s deeply worrying.”
