From Survivor to Second Chances

In a modest strip mall in Oklahoma City, lives are being rebuilt every day—thanks to one woman who knows firsthand what it means to need a second chance.

Her name is Delisa Lones, and for many, she’s become a lifeline.

Turning Pain Into Purpose

Lones, a trafficking survivor, has transformed her past into a mission centered on compassion, accountability, and hope.

Through her work at Second Chances Thrift Shop, she helps individuals navigating some of life’s toughest transitions—whether they’re coming out of incarceration, facing homelessness, or trying to rebuild after addiction.

“The thing about Delisa is when you don’t believe in yourself, she believes in you,” said Wayne Bradbury.

Bradbury, who is now sober and working to reestablish his life, says Lones helped him find housing, access sober living resources, and even something as simple—but essential—as a meal.

“She helped me when I got out,” he said.

Meeting People Where They Are

Lones’ approach is simple, but powerful: meet people where they are—and help them take the next step forward.

That might mean helping someone get an ID, connecting them with housing, or simply offering encouragement when they need it most.

“Whether it be right out of jail or homeless… she does so much good for so many people all the time,” said Terra Myers, who nominated Lones for a local Pay It Forward recognition.

A Well-Deserved Recognition

Lones was recently surprised with a Pay It Forward award, supported by First Fidelity Bank, honoring her ongoing impact in the community.

But for her, the recognition isn’t the point.

Her motivation runs deeper.

“Because God gets up for me every day,” Lones said. “I just have to love on his children like he loves on me.”

More Than a Program—A Path Forward

For those she helps, the impact goes beyond immediate support.

It’s about restoring dignity.

Rebuilding confidence.

And proving that a past does not have to define a future.

“They don’t see what’s really going on,” Bradbury said. “They don’t see my work… getting back into being a productive member of society.”

A Reminder That Second Chances Matter

In a world that can be quick to judge and slow to forgive, Lones is offering something different:

Grace.

Opportunity.

And a belief that people can change—if someone is willing to stand beside them.

One person at a time, she’s proving that second chances aren’t just possible—

They’re powerful.
