National Guard Deployment in D.C. Nets Murder and Gun Arrests on Day One

National Guard troops were spotted in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday as President Donald Trump’s federally led crackdown on street crime got underway. Under the Home Rule Act, Trump placed the Metropolitan Police Department under federal control for up to 30 days, deploying National Guard soldiers and federal law enforcement to assist local police. Mayor Muriel Bowser met with federal officials to coordinate efforts, acknowledging the city must adapt to the president’s directive.
