Iowa Rep. Mike Sexton Resigns After Trump Appointment

Iowa House Representative Mike Sexton has officially resigned his seat in the Iowa House, effective September 19, 2025, after being appointed to a position by President Donald Trump. Sexton, who represented House District 7 since 2014 and chaired the House Agriculture Committee since 2022, said it was an honor to serve his constituents. Speaker Pat Grassley praised Sexton’s steadfast leadership and advocacy for Iowa’s agriculture community. Governor Kim Reynolds will set a special election to fill the vacancy.
