Colorado Veteran Walks 20+ Miles to Support TSA Workers

A Mission Fueled by Service
In a powerful show of solidarity, a Colorado Air Force veteran known as “Big Tony” set out on a more than 20-mile journey to Denver International Airport—not for recognition, but to lift the spirits of struggling workers. Starting near Interstate 25, he walked through the day and into the night, carrying an American flag over his shoulder as a symbol of the purpose behind every step.

Walking in Their Shoes
Big Tony’s goal was simple: to better understand what Transportation Security Administration employees have been facing. Many had been working without pay for more than 40 days during a partial government shutdown. “I walk each mile to get a feel for what they’re going through,” he said, turning a physical challenge into a personal act of empathy.

Giving Back at the Finish Line
After completing the overnight trek, Big Tony arrived at the airport Saturday morning with more than just a story—he brought support. Using funds raised during his walk, he distributed gift cards, food, and other essentials to TSA workers. Along the way, businesses and community members also stepped in, including an auto shop that provided free services to affected workers.

Beyond the Paycheck
While an executive action signed by Donald Trump aims to restore pay for TSA workers, Big Tony emphasized that the financial fallout doesn’t disappear overnight. Missed payments, damaged credit, and ongoing stress are challenges many still face. His walk was meant to highlight those realities—and remind workers they are not alone.

A Reminder of Shared Responsibility
For Big Tony, the mission is rooted in something deeper than a single act of kindness. Many TSA workers are veterans themselves, and he sees their struggle as a call to action. “We’re not going to leave a veteran out there stranded,” he said. In a time of uncertainty, his journey stands as a reminder of the power of showing up for one another.
