InspiredBySammy: A Community Comes Together for Kindness

On July 8, residents across Camden County are being encouraged to participate in a “Day of Kindness” honoring the life and legacy of Samantha “Sammy” Goldsmith, whose spirit of generosity continues to impact lives years after her passing.
The initiative, organized in partnership with the Brain Injury Association of New York State, invites individuals, families, businesses, schools, and community organizations to perform acts of kindness throughout the day and share those experiences with others.
A Legacy Born from Resilience
Sammy Goldsmith was known by family and friends as someone who brought warmth, humor, and compassion wherever she went.
Raised in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Goldsmith graduated from University of Maryland in 2008 before building a successful career in corporate communications with companies including Ralph Lauren and Estée Lauder Companies.
In August 2019, while vacationing in England, Goldsmith suffered a severe traumatic brain injury after being struck by a vehicle. She underwent multiple surgeries and months of intensive rehabilitation before passing away on July 8, 2020, due to complications from her injuries.
Today, her legacy continues through community service, advocacy, and support for families facing similar challenges.
Supporting Families Facing Brain Injuries
Following Sammy’s accident, family and friends established a fundraiser to help offset medical expenses during her recovery.
After her passing, those remaining funds became the Samantha Goldsmith Fund, which was formally established in 2022 through the Brain Injury Association of New York State.
The fund helps brain injury survivors and their families cover unexpected expenses related to surgery, rehabilitation, and recovery.
Since its creation, the fund has provided financial assistance and support to numerous families navigating the life-changing challenges that often accompany traumatic brain injuries.
Small Acts Can Make a Big Difference
Organizers emphasize that participation doesn’t require a grand gesture.
Simple acts of kindness are encouraged, including buying coffee for a stranger, leaving an uplifting note, helping a neighbor, volunteering with a local nonprofit, donating to an animal shelter, or simply offering a sincere compliment.
Keeping Her Spirit Alive
The Day of Kindness serves as more than a memorial.
It is a reminder that one person’s compassion can continue creating ripples long after they are gone.
By encouraging acts of service, generosity, and connection, organizers hope to ensure that Sammy’s legacy continues to inspire others to make their communities a little brighter—one act of kindness at a time.
