AT&T Service Call Turns Special

A Symbol of Service and Sacrifice
In Colton, CA, patriotism runs deep—but for Tani Robinson, the American flag outside her home carries a deeply personal meaning. She and her late husband had long shared a commitment to honoring their family’s military service, with relatives who served in both World War II and Vietnam. Before his passing from cancer, her husband had hoped to install a permanent flagpole in their yard. Robinson later fulfilled that wish in his honor.

A Chance Encounter Leads to Something More
Recently, while an AT&T technician was working at her home, both he and Robinson noticed the flagpole had broken and fallen. What could have been a passing observation turned into something more meaningful when technician Jorge Garcia offered to help.

Going Beyond the Job
Garcia, who had been installing fiber at the home, was struck by Robinson’s kindness and her story. He decided to take action, submitting her situation as part of AT&T’s companywide “Act of Kindness” initiative. What followed was more than a repair—it was a full restoration effort.

A Community Effort to Honor Old Glory
Within days, Garcia and his coworkers returned, bringing materials and manpower. They poured concrete and installed a brand-new flagpole, giving Robinson’s tribute a stronger, lasting foundation. What had once been a broken symbol was now restored—standing tall once again.

Kindness That Leaves a Lasting Mark
For Robinson, the gesture meant far more than a repaired flagpole. It was a reminder that even in everyday moments, people are willing to step up for one another. “They just did it out of the goodness of their heart,” she said.

In a world often moving too fast, this simple act of kindness stands as a powerful example of service—both to a neighbor and to the values represented by the flag itself.
