Philip Dube, a teacher and coach at Pleasant Hill High School in Pleasant Hill, was recently highlighted in a local “Kindness in Our Community” segment for his dedication to helping students succeed in school, sports, and life.
According to the nomination, Dube is known for consistently going above and beyond for students — something that has led many to call him their favorite teacher and coach.
Teaching More Than Sports
While Dube coaches both football and baseball, he says his mission extends far beyond athletics.
“I’m here to try to help kids be successful in life,” Dube explained.
In addition to coaching, Dube teaches biology, physical education, and college and career readiness courses, giving him opportunities to mentor students in multiple areas of their lives.
Those who know him say that balance of leadership, encouragement, and compassion is what makes his influence so meaningful.
A Lasting Impact on Students
Over the years, Dube has worked with students at several Oregon schools, including Churchill, Marist, Thurston, and Pleasant Hill high schools.
Along the way, he has earned multiple honors, including being named an Oregon School Activities Association Coach of the Year several times.
But for many students and families, his biggest accomplishment has been the positive example he sets every day.
Whether helping athletes build confidence, encouraging students academically, or simply taking time to listen, Dube’s approach reflects the idea that kindness and leadership often go hand in hand.
Building Character Beyond the Classroom
Programs highlighting community kindness have become increasingly popular nationwide as schools and communities place greater emphasis on mentorship, empathy, and character development alongside academics and athletics.
Supporters say coaches and teachers like Dube play a unique role because they often become trusted mentors during some of the most formative years of a young person’s life.
And for many students in Pleasant Hill, Dube’s impact appears to stretch far beyond wins and losses.
A Community Recognizing Kindness
The local “Kindness in Our Community” series shines a spotlight on individuals making a difference through service, compassion, and leadership.
For Dube, the recognition reflects years spent investing in students — not just as athletes, but as people preparing for life after graduation.
