1,976 Acts of Kindness Planned in Indiana

A suburban Indiana community is turning a milestone celebration into a movement centered on something simple—but powerful: kindness.

Leaders in Carmel have announced a new initiative aimed at bringing residents together through service, connection, and community pride.

A Citywide Effort to Give Back

The Rotary Club of Carmel and Kiwanis Club of Carmel are partnering to launch the “Jim Irsay 1976 Acts of Kindness Day,” set for Aug. 5.

The goal: complete 1,976 acts of kindness across the city in a single day.

The number is a nod to the year Carmel was incorporated as a city—making the initiative part of a broader 50th anniversary celebration.

Honoring a Local Figure

The day is also designed to recognize Jim Irsay, a well-known figure in the region and owner of the Indianapolis Colts.

Organizers say the event is about more than honoring one person—it’s about inspiring a culture of giving that extends throughout the community.

Service Projects Across the City

Volunteers from service clubs, nonprofits, and local businesses are expected to take part in a wide range of projects.

While specific activities will vary, the focus is on making a tangible difference—whether through helping neighbors, supporting local organizations, or completing small acts of kindness that add up to something bigger.

Building Community Through Kindness

Organizers say the initiative is designed to spark civic pride and encourage long-term engagement.

“By dedicating a single day to collective impact, the partnership aims to inspire civic pride, expand community engagement, and leave a lasting, positive mark,” a spokesperson said.

It’s a reminder that when communities come together with a shared purpose, even small actions can create meaningful change.

More Than a Single Day

While the event is set for August, its message is meant to last far beyond.

Because at its core, “1976 Acts of Kindness Day” isn’t just about one day of service.

It’s about building a habit of showing up—for neighbors, for community, and for each other.
