One Teen’s Kindness Inspires a Movement

In a small corner of Western New York, a family is turning heartbreak into something powerful—ensuring one young man’s spirit continues to make a difference.

A Community Rallies After Loss

In Akron, near Buffalo, the loss of 17-year-old Quinn Cratsenberg last summer left a deep impact on family, friends, and the broader community.

Described as energetic, adventurous, and always smiling, Quinn was the kind of person who lifted others up—often without being asked.

Now, those closest to him are making sure that spirit lives on.

Turning Passion Into Purpose

At the center of that effort is “Quinn’s Kicks4Kidz,” a program inspired by Quinn’s love of sneakers—and his instinct to give.

Family members recall how he once bought a pair of shoes for a friend who couldn’t afford them. It was a small act, but one that captured who he was.

Today, that same idea is being expanded into a community initiative aimed at helping children in need access proper footwear—whether it’s everyday sneakers or even work boots for students in trade programs.

“Sneakers can be really expensive,” one family member shared. “Some families just can’t afford them.”

More Than One Way to Give Back

The impact doesn’t stop there.

Quinn’s memory is also being honored through a memorial scholarship at Akron Central School, providing financial support to students pursuing higher education.

And in a unique partnership with sculptor Erik Jones and his “Sculpting for Smiles” program, a special installation is planned—one that will serve as both a tribute and a source of inspiration for future students.

The project will also introduce students to STEAM concepts, connecting creativity with opportunity.

A Community Steps Up

Support has poured in from across the region.

Local businesses have donated items for fundraisers, and community members are preparing for an upcoming bowling benefit in Amherst to raise additional funds for the initiative.

It’s a reflection of something bigger than any one program.

It’s a community choosing to show up.

A Legacy That Continues to Grow

For Quinn’s family, these efforts are about more than honoring his memory—they’re about continuing the kindness he showed every day.

They’ve heard the stories. The hugs. The generosity. The quiet ways he made people feel seen.

And now, those moments are being carried forward.

Not through words alone—but through action.
