The Best (and Worst) Airports in North America, Ranked for 2025

Where Travel Feels Easy

For frequent flyers, the airport experience can make or break a trip. From seamless check-ins to stress-free connections, the best airports deliver efficiency, comfort, and good food — while the worst leave travelers counting the minutes until boarding.

J.D. Power has just released its 2025 North America Airport Satisfaction Study, ranking airports based on seven factors: ease of travel, terminal facilities, airport staff, food and retail options, and overall trust in the airport experience. The study grouped airports by passenger volume: mega (33+ million annually), large (10–32.9 million), and medium (4.5–9.9 million).

Top-Scoring Mega, Large, and Medium Airports

In the mega airport category, Minneapolis-Saint Paul International, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County, and Phoenix Sky Harbor International led the pack, followed by Dallas/Fort Worth and Harry Reid International in Las Vegas.

For large airports, John Wayne Airport in Orange County claimed the top spot, with Tampa International, Dallas Love Field, Kansas City International, and Raleigh-Durham International rounding out the top five.

Among medium airports, Indianapolis International once again proved its reputation for traveler satisfaction, joined by Ontario International, Buffalo Niagara, Jacksonville International, and Palm Beach International.

Where Not to Connect

Not every airport soared in the rankings. Newark Liberty, Toronto Pearson, and Charlotte Douglas landed at the bottom for mega airports, while Philadelphia International and Montreal-Trudeau ranked lowest among large facilities.

For medium airports, Edmonton International and Cleveland Hopkins disappointed travelers most.

The Takeaway

Whether you’re heading out on business or vacation, these rankings might help you plan smoother travels — or at least pack some snacks before your next layover.
