With a shaky job market, rising unemployment, and the Trump administration threatening mass federal layoffs, economists warn the stakes are higher than in past shutdowns. A lapse in funding could also delay critical data like the monthly jobs report and inflation numbers, leaving investors and the Federal Reserve flying blind. While Wall Street has historically brushed off shutdowns, experts caution this time the fallout could extend beyond the usual temporary disruption.
