A new study from Sichuan Province, China, adds to growing evidence that eating spicy foods may protect heart and brain health. Researchers followed more than 54,000 adults and found that those who ate chili peppers most days of the week were less likely to develop heart disease, stroke, or other major vascular problems. The key compound, capsaicin, appears to improve blood flow and support healthier arteries. Similar findings have emerged in Europe, suggesting that adding a little spice to your diet could deliver benefits far beyond flavor.
