Homeowners like Lynne Schueler of Topsfield, Massachusetts, have been given just weeks to make costly fixes after insurers flagged issues such as tree branches or roof damage—sometimes at the risk of losing both coverage and mortgage security. Consumer advocates warn the practice is spreading nationwide, while Massachusetts lawmakers push for legislation requiring insurers to disclose when drone images are taken and provide homeowners with an appeals process.
