Living Funerals Gain Popularity as Young Adults Embrace Celebrating Life Early

Living funerals, once largely reserved for those facing terminal illness, are now emerging as a mainstream trend. According to new research by Funeral Choice, nearly a third of adults in the UK would consider having one, with young people leading the way—53% of 18–24-year-olds say they’d want a chance to celebrate their life while they’re still here. Interest in the idea has surged, with online searches for “living funerals” rising 30% in the past year. Experts say the growing popularity reflects a shift in how people want to approach death, grief, and community—transforming farewells into occasions focused on joy, memory, and healing.
