Finding Flow, Not Force: A Gentle Guide to Nourishment and Balance

By mid-August, many of us feel the effects of long summer days, busy schedules, and less-than-ideal routines. In this week’s installment of her health and wellness series, Heather Jenkins reminds us that true balance starts with nourishment—both for the body and the mind. Instead of restriction, she encourages adding in the good: fresh foods, movement that feels natural, and intentional emotional resets. Her gentle guidance offers simple, sustainable ways to feel more grounded, energized, and connected.
Nourish Your Body + Mind
By mid-August, your body is likely craving nourishment and balance. The summer months may have been full of travel, indulgent foods, or disrupted routines. This week, shift your focus to how you’re fueling yourself both physically and emotionally.
Start by adding in, not taking away. Add more greens, fresh fruits, and water to your meals. Reconnect with meals that make you feel energized and satisfied. Avoid rigid diets or harsh self-criticism. Instead, ask yourself: What does my body need today to feel supported?
Movement also plays a key role in your reset. Choose movement that feels good, yoga, walking, stretching, dancing. The goal is flow, not force.
Be mindful of what you consume emotionally. Audit your social media, conversations, and even your self-talk. Is it draining you or nourishing your body and mind.
Reset Tip:
Choose one food goal and one emotional nourishment goal for the week.
Examples: Add 2 servings of veggies a day and replace evening scrolling with reading or journaling.
Self-Care Ritual:
Do a gentle Sunday prep session. Light a candle, play music, and wash produce, chop veggies, or prep snacks with intention. Let it be calming, not rushed.
Journal:
What foods, habits, and thoughts make me feel most alive and connected to myself?
As summer winds down, this week’s reset is about more than just food or fitness—it’s about creating space for habits, thoughts, and rituals that genuinely sustain you. By choosing small, intentional goals, you can step into the weeks ahead feeling supported and aligned. Heather’s reminder is simple yet powerful: when you nourish your body and mind, everything else begins to fall into place.
