WG Economy: Trump’s First Six Months Show Wages Beating Inflation
Adobe Stock/Dilok/stock.adobe.com

David Winston’s WG Economy for this week is his opinion column featured in Roll Call which says Republicans have reason to smile after the latest economic numbers. July’s Consumer Price Index held at 2.7% — slightly below expectations — and weekly wages have now outpaced inflation by 0.6% since President Trump took office. Winston notes that keeping wages ahead of prices is key to restoring purchasing power, but warns that core inflation remains high at 3.1% and tariffs could still drive costs upward. While the trend is positive, he cautions that it’s too soon to tell if voters will feel the difference in their wallets.
