Arizona Bill HB2871 Aims to Revolutionize PTSD and TBI Treatment for Veterans with Ibogaine Research

A new bill introduced in the Arizona House of Representatives aims to transform the treatment options available for military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injuries (TBI). House Bill 2871, presented this past Wednesday in the House Committee of the Whole, proposes an appropriation of $5 million for a clinical research study exploring the potential benefits of ibogaine, a substance known for its use in treating neurological conditions.
The bill, sponsored by Representative Justin Wilmeth, has garnered strong support for its potential to revolutionize care for veterans. Wilmeth emphasized the importance of the bill in a statement to Think American News, saying, “Too many of our veterans are fighting a war they never left—one that rages inside their own minds and bodies. The treatments we have now for veterans struggling with PTSD and brain injuries aren’t working for far too many of them. Ibogaine offers a real chance to change that, and Arizona can be the tip of the spear in delivering a next-generation solution that finally gives them the help they deserve.”
On his LinkedIn, Representative Wilmeth shared his pride in the bill, posting, “Wednesday, HB2871 was presented in the House Committee of the Whole. I’m extremely proud of this bill as I believe ibogaine will revolutionize treatment of TBI and PTSD in our military veterans. Watch for more of my thoughts.”
The bill proposes awarding the $5 million grant to an entity with a proven track record in researching and treating neurological diseases. If passed, the study could be a critical step toward providing veterans with a much-needed new treatment option for PTSD and TBI.
