Country Singer Jeff Bates Honors Charlie Kirk With New Tribute Song

Country singer Jeff Bates has released a heartfelt new tribute in honor of the late Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA. The song, titled “Good Man Going Home – Charlie’s Song,” became available yesterday across streaming platforms and comes with a powerful message of grief, faith, and remembrance. For Bates, the track is not just music—it’s a way of processing tragedy and giving voice to the heartbreak felt by many who knew and admired Kirk.

The news of Kirk’s death hit Bates deeply. “The moment I heard about Charlie, I was heartbroken and sick to my stomach,” he shared. “Then I got angry enough to ask God, ‘Why? How can you let this happen?’ But my faith already leads me to believe that Charlie is being welcomed into his new heavenly home with much rejoicing, even as we who are left behind are still grieving with broken hearts at the death of a good man. I knew I had to get that into a song immediately.”

That urgency drove Bates into the writing room the very same day. Scheduled to collaborate with fellow songwriters Jason Brownie, Nick Autry, and Randall Fowler, Bates said it became clear they all felt compelled to channel their grief into lyrics. Nick Autry suggested the title “Good Man Going Home,” and from there the process took off. “I started spitting out lines and then everybody else joined in and the song practically wrote itself,” Bates explained.

The result is a song steeped in both sorrow and hope, a blend that mirrors the mourning of a life cut short while holding onto the conviction that Kirk’s legacy continues in eternity. The track is accompanied by a lyric video, giving listeners an immediate way to engage with both the message and the music.

Bates, known for hits like “The Love Song” and “Long Slow Kisses,” is also using the release to give back. A portion of the proceeds from “Good Man Going Home – Charlie’s Song” will be donated to Turning Point USA, the organization Kirk founded. For Bates, it’s not about politics but about principle. “I believe no human being should ever have their life taken because of what they think or believe,” he said. “This is not about left or right or politics at all. This is a long ongoing battle between good and evil.”

The tribute is not only a testament to Kirk but also a reminder of Bates’ long-standing commitment to using his platform for more than just entertainment. Since the early 2000s, Bates has been a fixture in country music. Signed to RCA Records in 2002, he quickly made his mark with the release of his debut album Rainbow Man in 2003. His follow-up, Leave The Light On in 2005, and later his self-titled album on Black River Entertainment in 2008, further cemented his place on the charts. With three Top 40 singles and a reputation for heartfelt songwriting, Bates has always brought raw honesty to his work.

Beyond the charts, he has consistently put compassion into action. Following Hurricane Katrina, he helped raise $25,000 for relief efforts in his home state of Mississippi. He has also supported organizations like Toys for Tots and continues to be a strong advocate for community causes.

This latest release shows that Bates is still deeply connected to the world around him, willing to write and sing about the difficult moments as well as the joyful ones. “Good Man Going Home – Charlie’s Song” arrives not just as a tribute but as a call to reflection. It challenges listeners to consider how fragile life can be, and how faith, music, and unity can bring healing in the wake of tragedy.

As fans stream the song and share the lyric video, Bates hopes the message resonates far beyond country music audiences. For him, it’s about honoring Kirk’s life and underscoring a timeless truth: in moments of loss, music can help hold the pieces of a broken heart together.
