New York Highway Dedicated to Fallen Syracuse Officer Michael E. Jensen

A young life cut short in service to others will now be remembered in a lasting way along a stretch of highway in his hometown.

Governor Kathy Hochul has signed legislation dedicating a portion of State Route 46 in honor of Syracuse Police Officer and Rome native Michael E. Jensen, who was killed in the line of duty last year. The newly designated section runs from Prospect Street in the City of Rome to Dixon Drive in the Town of Western. For the family, friends, and community who knew Officer Jensen best, the highway will stand as a daily reminder of his courage and sacrifice.

Officer Jensen, only 29 years old, lost his life on April 14, 2024, while responding to a dangerous standoff in the town of Salina. That day, law enforcement officers across central New York rushed to the scene of a barricaded suspect. The tense situation tragically ended with the deaths of both Officer Jensen and Lieutenant Michael Hoosock of the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office.
