Country Star Pam Tillis Marks Silver Anniversary at the Opry

Country music icon Pam Tillis celebrated a major milestone on Tuesday, August 26, marking her 25th anniversary as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Surrounded by family, friends, and fellow artists, the GRAMMY® Award-winning singer was honored on the very stage where she first appeared as a child alongside her legendary father, Mel Tillis.

The anniversary show was hosted by 650 AM WSM’s Charlie Mattos and featured an all-star lineup, including Vince Gill, Lorrie Morgan, Suzy Bogguss, Jamey Johnson, Russell Dickerson, and Emily Ann Roberts. Family members also traveled in from across the country to share the moment with Tillis, making the night feel more like a joyful reunion than a traditional performance.

Reflecting on the evening, Tillis shared her gratitude: “Tuesday night was more than I ever could’ve dreamed. To have so many dear friends and special guests there to celebrate with me made it feel like one big family reunion. Marking 25 years as a member of the Grand Ole Opry is such a milestone, and it reminded me of just how much this stage has meant to me over the years. The Opry has given me some of the most meaningful moments of my career, and sharing that stage with people I love made the night unforgettable. My heart is full, and I’m still floating on cloud nine.”

Tillis was first inducted into the Opry in 2000 by fellow country star Marty Stuart, becoming the first female artist to join the institution in the new millennium. Her connection to the Opry goes back decades—she made her debut appearance at age eight, performing with her father, a beloved member of the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Throughout her career, Tillis has left an indelible mark on country music. She has earned nearly 20 Top 10 hits and six No. 1 singles, with fan favorites like “Maybe It Was Memphis,” “Shake the Sugar Tree,” “Mi Vida Loca,” and “Cleopatra, Queen of Denial.” She has also won three CMA Awards, including the coveted Female Vocalist of the Year in 1994, and two GRAMMY® Awards. Beyond country, Tillis has embraced pop, Broadway, soul, and jazz influences, seamlessly blending them into her signature sound.

From her early days as a backup singer and songwriter to her rise as one of the genre’s most distinctive voices, Pam Tillis has carried forward her family’s musical legacy while carving out her own trailblazing path.

With new projects and music on the horizon, Tillis shows no signs of slowing down. For her, the 25th anniversary isn’t just a celebration of the past—it’s a reminder of what’s still to come.
