Honor Wisconsin’s Forgotten Heroes: Join the Powerful Korean War Memorial Ceremony This Sunday!

The Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial, located on an island in Lake Pacawa Park in Plover, stands as a powerful tribute to the 801 Wisconsinites who fought and died during the Korean War. Established through the tireless efforts of local veterans and the community, the memorial has become a place of reflection and remembrance for all who visit. The memorial features a stunning granite wall, bronze statues, and flagpoles, offering a poignant space to honor those who served in what is often referred to as “America’s Forgotten War.”
Over the years, the community has played an integral role in maintaining and preserving the memorial, with funding coming from donations, Memorial Tile purchases, and the Village of Plover’s support. Today, it stands as a lasting symbol of sacrifice and bravery, with private donations ensuring its upkeep for generations to come. The Village of Plover took on the responsibility of maintaining the memorial in 2009, ensuring that the site would continue to honor Wisconsin’s fallen heroes for years to come.
This Sunday, Senator Patrick Testin will have the honor of being a guest speaker at the annual ceremony held at the memorial to pay tribute to the Wisconsinites who fought, died, or went missing during the Korean War. The ceremony will take place rain or shine, beginning with music at 10:45 a.m. and followed by the formal ceremony at 11 a.m. Senator Testin is encouraging everyone in the area to attend and show their support for the brave men and women who served.
The event will be held at the Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial Island, and attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather. Items such as blankets, umbrellas, jackets, hats, sunglasses, and bottled water are recommended, and while seating will be provided, guests are welcome to bring their own lawn chairs. Parking is available at the Sentry Curling Center, along Maple Drive, and in the Village Park lots, although handicap accessible parking will be limited.
Senator Testin emphasized the importance of attending the ceremony, stating, “If you can’t make it to Sunday’s event, I encourage you to visit the Wisconsin Korean War Veterans Memorial whenever you have the chance. It’s an emotional and powerful place of remembrance that speaks volumes about the sacrifices made by our veterans.”
The annual ceremony is a chance for the community to come together, reflect on the sacrifices made during the Korean War, and honor those who served. It’s a reminder of the bravery and dedication of Wisconsin’s fallen heroes, and an opportunity to ensure their memory is never forgotten.
