From Parades to Pool Parties: What’s Happening Across America This Memorial Day Weekend

As Memorial Day weekend approaches (May 24–26), cities across the United States are gearing up for festivals, tributes, and summer kickoffs perfect for couples, families, and solo adventurers alike. Whether you’re looking to dance the weekend away, explore history, or just relax under the sun, there’s something happening for everyone.

In our nation’s capital, the National Memorial Day Parade returns to Constitution Avenue, a tradition filled with historical reenactments, military bands, and patriotic pride. Meanwhile, thousands of veterans and supporters will ride in the Rolling to Remember motorcycle rally on Sunday, honoring America’s POWs and MIAs. Just outside the city, Vienna, Virginia hosts Viva! Vienna!, a family-friendly street festival filled with rides, music, and food—all supporting local nonprofits. And with Memorial Day marking the unofficial start to summer, area waterparks like The Water Mine and SplashDown will reopen for the season, offering a splashy escape for the whole family.

For music lovers, the holiday weekend brings major festivals from coast to coast. Detroit will be pulsing with the sounds of electronic beats at the Movement Festival, a three-day techno celebration in the heart of the Motor City. Over in Napa Valley, BottleRock blends food, wine, and big-name performances by Justin Timberlake and Green Day. And in Chillicothe, Illinois, the Summer Camp Music Festival promises a jam-band vibe with camping and community energy, perfect for those seeking a more laid-back, yet lively weekend.

Families can look skyward at the Alabama Jubilee Hot Air Balloon Classic in Decatur, where over 60 balloons will fill the skies with color and awe. In New York, the Jones Beach Air Show (also known as the FourLeaf Air Show) will feature thrilling stunts from elite military and civilian pilots. Meanwhile, San Francisco’s Carnaval parade and street fair will light up the Mission District with multicultural music, dance, and food.

Singles looking to mix and mingle can check out the Memorial Day Singles Party in New York City, attracting guests in their 20s to 50s for a night of dancing and drinks. For a more laid-back social scene, the Philadelphia Latino Film Festival offers a chance to enjoy global storytelling while meeting fellow film lovers.

Outdoor fun is everywhere. In Connecticut, parks along Candlewood Lake open for the season, with beaches and kayaking available across five towns. Down in Texas, San Antonio is offering free access to six public pools beginning Saturday—ideal for cooling off without breaking the bank.

Of course, the weekend is also a time for reflection. Colonial Williamsburg will host special programming dedicated to America’s founding principles and those who’ve fought to defend them. In Arlington National Cemetery, visitors can observe the solemn “Flags In” tradition and other memorial events honoring our fallen heroes.

Whether you’re looking to remember, relax, or revel—this Memorial Day weekend offers a little something for everyone across the country.
