Local Students Gain Experience at Indiana Statehouse

Two local college students are gaining invaluable experience during the 2025 legislative session as interns for the Indiana Senate Majority Caucus, announced State Sen. Cyndi Carrasco via a press release earlier this week.
Esther Blake, an Indianapolis resident and sophomore at Indiana University Indianapolis, is studying human resource management. Andy Gibson, also from Indianapolis, is a junior at the same university, focusing on law and global international studies.
Carrasco emphasized the importance of interns, especially during a budget year. “Interns are extremely helpful to the Senate, and it’s exciting to have local students witness how their local and state governments collaborate on legislation,” she said.
As legislative interns, Blake and Gibson are involved in tracking and analyzing bill data, providing constituent services, staffing Senate committee hearings, and conducting policy research.
Blake expressed her appreciation for the opportunity. “Being able to work and have firsthand experience in local government is one of the greatest privileges,” she said. “I’m thankful for the chance to learn and immerse myself with the policymakers behind some of Indiana’s most significant legislation.”
Gibson also highlighted the value of the experience. “Working for the Indiana Senate has been a great experience,” he said. “Each week I gain new insights into the legislative system and professional skills.”
The Senate Majority Caucus internship program will run through the end of the legislative session, set to conclude on April 29, 2025.
