The Dangerous Lie Behind “Fixing” Capitalism

Capitalism’s Flaws—and a Dangerous Pivot

Rightfully, there has been much discussion centered on the shortcomings of a capitalist economic system. It is important to note that we already have a highly regulated economy for almost all segments. In the past, this has meant attempting to address the problems while maintaining a capitalist system. However, recently, the emphasis has been to largely replace a market-based system with pure socialism. To do so would serve as the very definition of the cure being worse than the disease.

Who Decides Your “Fair Share”?

Time after time, those supporting socialism reveal their real agenda—to assume responsibility for deciding what constitutes your (and my) “fair share.” A group of pure elitists inside and outside government will make these determinations. Some, such as the newly elected mayor of New York City, go even further. They want the government to assume control over the means of production and distribution.

Ignoring the Evidence

What would it take for these elitists to at least consider the proposition that this might not be the best approach? Would it be examining the results of where this approach has been attempted? Apparently not.

The Soviet Union: The Model That Failed

The model socialist state is the Soviet Union. Under Stalin alone, as many as 15 million were killed (guessing we can consider that a triggering event in the extreme). After Stalin, many more millions were executed for their opposition or placed in the Gulags. This does not even address those killed by planned famines (a novel way to reduce demand). Countless numbers risked their lives to escape this supposed utopia.

Socialism as an Economic System

How has communism worked as a purely economic system? Terribly, to say the least. First of all, the elites in government and those actually producing something hardly decided that an equal distribution was the way to go. Without actually doing anything other than controlling people, they found it proper to live a luxurious lifestyle.

Why People Flee Socialism

There is a reason that millions have risked their lives to flee socialism. Ask any Venezuelan living in America if they would like to return to a socialist country. Or a Cuban. Or an Eastern European. Socialism is an inherently flawed and evil system. It is the worst sort of lie to argue “it just has not been done right.” How many dead people, starving people, and oppressed people will it take to conclude that whatever the problems are, socialism is not the answer?

The Role of Education and Culture

Unless and until Americans reclaim the education system from a group with an avowed progressive agenda, including socialism, we can only expect worse things to happen. Propped up by academia, the legacy media, and the world of entertainment, our benevolent betters will decide things for us. They are led into battle by the AWFLs (affluent, white, female liberals) for whom it hovers between never and seldom to suffer the deficiencies of socialism.

The Numbers Should Alarm Everyone

If you think I am overstating things, consider these facts. 39 percent of Democrats have a favorable view of capitalism. Meanwhile, 66 percent of them have a favorable view of socialism. Among all 18–29-year-olds, 62 percent hold a favorable view of socialism. An astounding 34 percent are favorable to communism!!! Might I suggest a trip to the Victims of Communism Museum, a few blocks from the White House in Washington, D.C.?

Liberty Versus Government-Controlled Security

Let me make this as clear and simple as I can. These numbers are a travesty. We are sacrificing liberty and freedom in the name of government-determined security. We are going from a resilient, strong, and independent nation to a fragile, weak, and dependent nation.

Control, Not Compassion

As stated earlier, none of this has a darn thing to do with anything other than controlling the behavior of others. The current uproar over Obamacare subsidies coming to an end without Congressional action is example one. It seems not to matter that those who opposed Obamacare in the first place predicted this was bound to happen. Toss in adding millions to the rolls during COVID as a “temporary” measure—this being, of course, the government’s definition of temporary (never to be rescinded). If this had anything to do with giving access to quality healthcare for less money, the government could have bought every person covered by Obamacare a top-of-the-line private insurance policy.

Remember This

We will continue to explore this subject in future columns. For now:

Remember this: Capitalism has its defects, but, against any reasonable set of standards, it is a darn site better than socialism.
