Trump Orders Troops to Portland, Oregon — State and Local Leaders Push Back

President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social that he is sending troops to Portland, Oregon, to protect Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, citing attacks from “domestic terrorists.” Oregon leaders swiftly pushed back, calling the move unnecessary and unlawful. The White House and Pentagon have not clarified whether active-duty forces or the National Guard will be deployed, nor have they released troop numbers. Democrats in Congress vowed to fight the deployment, accusing Trump of escalating tensions for political gain.
