The Germiest Spot in Your Rental Car Isn’t What You Think

Think your rental car’s steering wheel is the germiest spot? Think again. A new CloroxPro study swab-tested rental cars across the U.S. and found the biggest offenders aren’t the handles or wheel, but the places you’d least expect—like the driver’s floor mats, trunk, and cup holders. Even the dashboard air vents, which circulate air directly into the cabin, ranked high on the list. If you’re hitting the road in a rental, a quick wipe-down of these overlooked areas (and a good scrub of your water bottle after it’s been in the cup holder) might be your best defense against unwanted passengers of the microscopic kind.
