San Francisco Pastor Accused of Swindling Congregation Out of $400K

A California pastor is facing serious charges after allegedly using his position in the pulpit to deceive his own congregation out of more than $400,000. Kenny Man Wong, a 56-year-old from Los Angeles, is accused of posing as both a spiritual leader and a legal professional—despite not being licensed to practice law in California. Prosecutors say Wong offered fake legal services to churchgoers in San Francisco’s Sunset District starting in 2018, convincing them to hand over large sums of money while claiming to work on their cases. Instead, officials allege, he pocketed the funds to buy a home in Southern California. District Attorney Brooke Jenkins says the betrayal cut deep, as Wong continued to cite faith to reassure victims who began to question him. Wong is now facing four counts of grand theft and is scheduled for arraignment.
