Rep. Joe Casello Remembered as ‘GQ Joe’ and Public Servant with Heart

Florida is mourning the loss of State Representative Joe Casello, who passed away at age 73 after suffering a heart attack, according to Florida House Democrats. Casello, remembered for his humor, humility, and deep commitment to public service, served as a firefighter in Worcester, Massachusetts, for 30 years before moving into politics in Florida. He was a former Boynton Beach city commissioner and was first elected to the state House in 2018. Known affectionately as “GQ Joe” by colleagues for his sharp style and warm personality, Casello had recently announced plans to run for the Palm Beach County Commission in 2026. A private ceremony will be held in Massachusetts, with a public memorial service to be announced. Under Florida law, Gov. Ron DeSantis will be required to call a special election to fill the vacancy.
