Rare Praise: Democrat Harold Ford Jr. Supports Trump’s D.C. Crime Crackdown

Former Democratic Congressman Harold Ford Jr. offered rare praise for President Donald Trump on Monday after the president announced he is taking control of Washington, D.C.’s Metropolitan Police Department and deploying 800 National Guard members to the city. Speaking on Fox News’ The Five, Ford said he was “pleased and encouraged” by the move, citing concerns about public safety at locations like Union Station. While violent crime in the nation’s capital reached a 30-year low in 2024, Trump invoked Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act, arguing that crime remains a serious problem and suggesting similar action could be taken in other major cities. Ford urged both parties to take crime more seriously, saying, “Liberals don’t like crime, conservatives don’t like crime… let’s get rid of it.”
