Progressive Professor Leaves Democratic Party Over Transgender Issues and Women’s Rights

Rutgers University law professor Gary Francione has announced that he is leaving the Democratic Party, citing concerns over the party’s stance on transgender issues, particularly its opposition to the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. Despite voting for Kamala Harris in 2020, Francione criticized the party’s shift from addressing class issues to focusing on identity politics. He expressed concern that the party now prioritizes the interests of “identity politics elites” over working-class voters, calling the Democratic response to gender-related legislation “deplorable.”
