Deputy Pulls Injured Mail Driver from Burning Truck in Washington
The dramatic rescue unfolded just after noon in Parkland, Washington, about 40 miles south of Seattle, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office.
Crash Leaves Truck in Flames
Authorities said the mail truck collided with a white sedan around 12:10 p.m., causing the postal vehicle to erupt into flames moments after impact. Bodycam footage shows the first deputy arriving to find the truck burning intensely, with thick smoke and fire spreading rapidly.
Inside the truck was the injured mail driver, trapped and in immediate danger as flames grew around the vehicle.
Deputy Acts Without Hesitation
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, the deputy rushed toward the burning truck and pulled the driver to safety, dragging them away from the fire just in time. Sheriff’s officials said the driver was injured and at serious risk due to the rapidly spreading flames.
A bystander who witnessed the rescue joined the deputy and attempted to extinguish the fire while awaiting emergency crews.
Firefighters Take Over Rescue Efforts
Although the deputy and bystander were unable to fully suppress the fire, Central Pierce Fire crews arrived shortly afterward and extinguished the flames.
Officials confirmed that both the mail truck driver and a male passenger riding in the back seat of the sedan suffered serious injuries and were transported to local hospitals for treatment.
Investigation Ongoing
The cause of the crash has not yet been released, and authorities have not provided updates on the current condition of the injured individuals.
The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office praised both the deputy and the civilian bystander for their swift and selfless actions, noting that their response likely prevented a far more tragic outcome.
